ESA Technology Market Assessments: understanding the foreseen demand for space technologies • Sep 2025

Technology Harmonisation involves over 1,000 European and Canadian stakeholders, including ESA, national agencies and organisations, the European Commission, the European Defence Agency, and Space Entities (industry, R&D organisations, academia and associations). It provides them with the framework and the key instruments needed to coordinate space technology at the European level. This is achieved by identifying the needs and existing capabilities and by agreeing on ‘European Space Technology Roadmaps’.

One of the key elements in setting strategic directions is a good understanding of the foreseen demand for the space technologies and products under consideration. To build this knowledge at the required level of granularity, ESA has adopted a systematic process that combines technical expert insights with the latest available market forecasts.

Implemented by the consulting firm Novaspace, the market assessments of the first Technology Harmonisation cycle of 2025 are available on both the ESA Space Economy Portal library and as annexes to the respective Technical Harmonisation Dossiers, covering the following topics:

European and Canadian Space Entities are invited to participate in Harmonisation and access its results through the ESA Harmonisation database. Contact harmo@esa.int to get involved.
